Essential Functions Leadership and Department Oversight:
Ensures delivery of quality departmental services in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory/accreditation agency standards. Serves as a positive change agent by supporting hospital initiatives and participates in committees, task forces and projects when appropriate. As required, participates in the Performance Improvement Program as defined by the organization. Demonstrates positive customer service, fosters positive employee relations and assures that staff adhere to the Customer Service Behavioral Standards. Utilizes multiple communication to ensure effective information flow
Personnel Management and Training:
Supervises tests performed as well as trains and assists laboratory staff with specialized tests. Performs bench testing regularly and when staffing requires assistance Assures completion of staff orientation, annual and ongoing competency and education requirements. Verify personnel are trained and deemed proficient prior to performing testing on patient specimens independently and have completed competency assessments as needed. Ensure action is taken when personnel do not perform well on competency assessments Documents test implementation and training for staff. Is actively involved in assisting with the development of effective utilization of laboratory/computer software to include instrument interfacing, tests, worksheets and report formatting.
Quality Assurance:
Oversees the Quality Control Program and prepares monthly QC reports; submits inter-laboratory comparisons when appropriate. Monitoring and ensuring that acceptable performance specifications are maintained, including: Review of quality control, scheduled instrument and equipment maintenance, and other quality assurance activities as assigned. Ensure test system performance by initiating preventive or corrective actions when procedures deviate from established specifications including ensuring that test results are not reported until nonconformances are resolved and the system meets laboratory performance specifications Monitors turn-around-time for applicable assays Communication and escalating issues including non-conformities to the attention of laboratory management including the medical director. Adheres to safety standards for employees and patients. Troubleshoots instrument malfunction when needed and works with vendors to resolve issues. Maintains inventory and ordering as appropriate for supplies Prepares section payroll and time sheets as required. Develops and submits departmental goals and objectives as required by the Division Administrative Director and Section Supervisor. Interviews prospective candidates Attends and participates in educational programs or activities to maintain current level of knowledge or expertise to manage department. All other duties as assigned Qualifications BS degree in Clinical Technology or related science required 4-6 years At least four years of relevant hospital experience Required Keeps abreast of accrediting agencies regulatory standards for the Laboratory to meet compliance (High proficiency) Leadership and problem-solving capabilities (High proficiency) Maintains effective communication within and outside the Laboratory Department.
