Job Title Biology Lab Manager Student Assistant - Aquaponics Department Biology Terms and Hours Approx.2-3 hr/wk Job Category Student Employment Hourly Wage Portland Metro Minimum Wage ($16.30) Job Summary The Biology Lab Manager Student Assistant for Aquaponics will play a key role in supporting the Biology Lab Manager in the design, maintenance, operation, and harvesting of the Swindells Aquaponics Project. This position offers hands-on experience in sustainable agriculture and innovative growing techniques. The primary objective of the project is to establish and maintain a sustainable, alternative method for cultivating plants and raising aquatic organisms on campus. Responsibilities include monitoring water quality, maintaining equipment, caring for aquatic organisms, planting and harvesting crops, and assisting with the educational components of the project. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in biology, environmental science, agriculture, or sustainability to gain practical, real-world experience while contributing to a cutting-edge project on campus. Core Duties Assist Biology Lab Manager with inventory of seeds, plants, nutrients, and equipment. Water, prune, and harvest plants as appropriate. Wash and clean supplies. Keep greenhouses clean and organized. Willing to help out with Biology lab related items as well as needed. Other relevant duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Be a current student of either Environmental Studies or Biology's Ecology, Environmental, and Conservation major. Preferred Qualifications Students with Federal Work Study in Financial Aid Package preferred. Students with Green Dot Certification preferred or willingness to complete certification.
