Job Description Summary:
Provides overall management and coordination of the department staff that ensures the highest standards of service to the customers in the most effective and efficient manner. Functions as liaison with hospital administration, other system departments and outside agencies for daily operations as well as long range planning. Responsible for the management of the department to include all administrative and technical needs. Employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Supervises all staff members of the Radiation Oncology Department. Reports to the Administrative Director of the Cancer Center and the Medical Director of Radiation Therapy. Interviews applicants and hires all personnel for the Radiation Oncology Department. Monitors work, trains, counsels, and evaluates performance. Disciplines and recommends salary increases. Manages supervisors and approves personnel action for their subordinates. Plans, programs, services, and operations design; works with the Cancer Center Administrator to identify opportunities for improvement and expansion of services. Develops and prepares department budgets; develops and implements policies and procedures necessary to achieve department goals. Ensures the effective implementation of all hospital policies and procedures into department policies and procedures. Ensures that staff maintain department records accurately and calibrates equipment properly. Oversees maintenance and repairs; recommends the modification of existing equipment or the purchase of additional equipment as necessary. Supervises, instructs, and evaluates the technical staff in radiation therapy techniques. Provides staffing support as needed to ensure the efficient care of the patients. Responsible for maintaining and improving the Quality + efforts for the department. Serves on hospital committees as requested. Responsible for the ongoing growth and development of the department personnel. Adjusts staffing patterns to enhance productivity and improve patient care. Participates in intra-departmental committees for collaboration and coordination of services. Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
Skills and proficiency in a technical or clinical healthcare-related field as acquired through 5 or more years of experience. A degree in management or related studies is desirable.
LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION

5-7 years of management background is preferable.

INTERPERSONAL REQUIREMENTS
Management and communication skills Interpersonal skills to perform treatments and procedures, provide instruction and support in interaction with patients and families on a frequent basis. Communication skills, tact and courtesy in answering calls and pages on a continuous basis and dealing with medical staff and other departments on a frequent basis. Contributes to a positive work environment and the overall team effort of the department.
DIRECTION/SUPERVISION REQUIREMENTS
Ability to manage directly Radiation Oncology Supervisors and indirectly a staff of Radiation Therapists.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to stand and walk continuously and perform moderate lifting and positioning of equipment and patients on a frequent basis.

Possible exposure to radiation
