Job Summary:
The Director Laboratory Services is responsible for leading and directing the day-to-day operations of Laboratory Services to assure operational excellence. Accountable for ensuring hospital and regulatory standards compliance, development and enforcement of service line policies and procedures, cooperation and participation in the performance improvement initiatives. Leads activities including the establishment of a clean and safe environment, maintains knowledge of applicable laws and standards of responsible services and enforces compliance.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:
Oversees inpatient and out patient laboratory service functions including hospital, ED and remote laboratories, point of care and community health outreach operations as appropriate.

Provides leadership and guidance in the execution of the short and long-term goals that are aligned with the strategic vision of the Laboratory Medical Director. Assists and acts on behalf of and with the Medical Director in dealing with technical issues, CAP and quality, and providing leadership in the development of staff cohesiveness. Develop functional objectives, implements, plans and monitors progress of set goals, and revises plans, as necessary, relative to areas of responsibility. Directly responsible for fiscal planning, budget and audits, personnel management, space planning and management. Provides the Vice President with written, ongoing progress reports for key initiatives and daily operations. Participates in development of vision and strategy for lab services with the Vice President. Work with Laboratory Managers, Supervisors and Leads to define, monitor and improve quality, efficiency and communication of clinical services through the evaluation of methods, performance and quality, and by recommending and implementing indicated changes. Develops and updates policies and procedures. Provides the organization with appropriate tactics for successful customer service, regulatory and accrediting surveys within responsible services. Ensures through collaborative effort and communication with appropriate nursing and physician leadership personnel in all Network laboratory testing sites and functions comply with laboratory regulatory standards, including but not limited to those established by CLIA'88, CAP, TJC, OSHA, AABB, OIG, CMS, FDA, and maintain appropriate records and documentation. Provide leadership, guidance, personnel management functions and coaching for all direct reports to maintain an engaged and productive workforce; partnering with Human Resources on employee matters. Develops a positive rapport with staff evidenced by Employee Engagement, colleagues, physicians and leadership. Develops and implements monitoring processes to ensure that department's performance is consistent with the organization's metrics-based management performance system. Ensures that strategies and processes exist to maximize financial resource management, including development and achievement of financial performance objectives and productivity performance. Prepares and monitors annual budget to ensure appropriate performance against objectives, manage capital requests, contract negotiations and ROI provision, anticipates opportunities for new services and programs and reduction of expenses in the organization. Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology Lab or a directly related discipline from an accredited college or university. 5 plus years of management experience in related field. 5 plus years of clinical laboratory experience. Registered as a Medical Technologist (MT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Health/Business Management Administration or Master of Science in Biological Science, Chemistry or Physical Science from an accredited college or university. 5 plus years of experience in multiple discipline service line. 2 plus years of experience working with finance/budgeting, healthcare regulatory compliance topics and Hospital and Laboratory Information Systems.
