A Clinical Laboratory Scientist analyzes samples of body fluids, tissues, and other substances for diagnostic and research purposes within a medical laboratory or healthcare facility. Perform complex chemical, biological, hematological, immunologic, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests. Looks for bacteria, parasites, and other microorganisms, tests for drug levels in the blood to show how a patient is responding to treatment.

Job Description Help for Job Description. Opens a new window. Shand's Jacksonville Medical Center, Inc., d/b/a UF Health Jacksonville has an opening for a Technical Laboratory Specialist (Spec Technical Lab) at 11251 Lamb Tail Lane, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
Job duties include the following:
Perform moderate and high complexity procedures in assigned technical area requiring advanced knowledge and skills; Participate in instrument validation, correlations, new procedures, and special projects; Operate lab instrumentation to provide clinical data for use in treatment and diagnosis of disease; Make independent judgment decisions in the reporting of normal and abnormal results; Set up new lots of quality control; Perform and analyses data to ensure accurate test results; Review quality control daily, weekly, and monthly. Compile monthly quality control statistics; Assist departments with competency assessment and performs assessments as required; Perform troubleshooting on instruments and keeps supervisor informed; Monitor instrument maintenance; Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for
CLIA, AHCA, AABB, & CAP.
Review regulatory standards and related procedures with staff; Perform linearities and instrument to instrument comparisons as required; Perform verifications when required and compile documentation for review by supervisor; Perform LIS validations; Assist supervisor in planning, scheduling, coordinating, and problem solving in the assigned laboratory area; Maintain inventory for assigned area. Reach charges for department as necessary; Assign PT surveys to staff in a timely manner; Monitor staff CAP assignments for results and submission to CAP. Must have 24 mo. exp. as a medical technologist, a bachelors degree in Medical Technology or human sciences such as biology, chemistry or clinical/medical laboratory science. (acad. equiv. ok). Florida Licensure as a clinical laboratory technologist or supervisor.
