Description:
JOB SUMMARY
The Medical Technologist is responsible for performing complex analyses, using and maintaining complicated instruments, assuming accountability for accurate results, monitoring quality control, assisting and teaching others, acting as a resource to others, assuming responsibility for a given instrument or work area, demonstrating expertise in multiple work areas, utilizing management and leadership skills and other duties as requested.
SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Understands basic laboratory methods to include testing, equipment, record keeping, regulatory agencies and safety. Reports results to clients completely, accurately, within established time frames and according to department protocols. Reviews and monitors specimen tests for completeness and accuracy before releasing. Understands, performs and practices good QC, performs QC troubleshooting, identifies and corrects problem. Understands, performs and practices preventative maintenance. Troubleshoots and takes corrective action to include working through a technical manual and /or with technical service. Demonstrates expertise in multiple work areas in the lab and serves as a technical expert. Acts as a resource to coworkers. Accepts responsibility for personal development and training. Demonstrates ability to be part of a team to include accepting and completing assignments. Assists in training employees and students as pertains to own duties. Promotes continuity of care through communication to shifts, units, facilities and departments. Performs other duties, as requested, to ensure overall operational success. Assumes responsibility in the absence of the supervisor. All job requirements listed indicate the minimum level of knowledge, skills and ability deemed necessary to perform the job proficiently. Hours:
Full Time, Monday - Friday, Holiday and weekend rotations.
Salary:
$40.00 - $61.00 per hour based on experience.

EXPERIENCE
Preferred:
3 years post degree work experience, not required.
Additional Consideration:
Four (4) or more years of experience as a Medical Technologist may qualify an employee to assume limited supervisory or lead responsibilities as assigned, when needed.
EDUCATION
Current licensure as a Medical Technologist (Clinical Laboratory Technologist) by the New York State Education Department (SED). Licensure may have been obtained through any NYS-approved pathway in effect at the time of initial licensure, including grandfathered pathways.
