was established in 1958 by Carl Nelson, MD, under the sponsorship of the Knoxville Academy of Medicine. MEDIC's operational and capital costs are financed by blood supplier processing fees charged to hospitals. MEDIC is the only U.S. blood center that has a Blood Coverage Program covering members' blood supplier processing fees at any hospital in the country. MEDIC is a member of America's Blood Centers and is an accredited member of AABB. The center adheres to the blood product safety regulations established by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and is licensed by the FDA and the State of Tennessee. Today, MEDIC Regional Blood Center is the provider of blood and blood-related products for 25 hospitals in 23 counties in East Tennessee and Southeastern Kentucky and regional air transport services. MEDIC's main location is in Knoxville, TN, with other fixed collection sites in Farragut, Athens, and Crossville. Job Summary As a member of the processing lab team, the Medical Laboratory Technologist, will perform all laboratory tests and special procedures necessary for the processing of donor blood and components. Key Duties and Responsibilities Perform routine and special laboratory procedures for testing of blood products, including but not limited to: donor testing, quality control testing, component preparation, suitability of returned components, and labeling of blood components. Perform as a batch review and release technologist to verify the acceptability of blood products for transfusion and manufacturing use. Review, screen, and analyze daily testing results, laboratory worksheets, reports, and all other documentation required. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment in a safe, clean, and orderly manner. Analyze and implement resolutions to problems encountered in laboratory procedures. Perform special component processing, including but not limited to washing, freezing, and deglycing. Qualifications (required) Bachelor's degree in biological science, chemistry, medical technology or a related field. Medical Technologist in TN (or if another state- ability to obtain license before start of employment). One to Three Years of experience in a Processing Lab (Blood Bank experience preferred). Ability to read, analyze, and interpret daily testing results, laboratory worksheets, reports, and all other required laboratory documentation. Schedule Day Shift Monday
