Competitive salary with shift differentials Job Summary The Medical Technologist I performs routine and specialized moderate and high complexity laboratory tests on blood and body fluid specimens under minimal supervision. You will be responsible for ensuring accurate, reliable results by adhering to strict quality control protocols and maintaining advanced laboratory instrumentation. This role is essential to our hospital's diagnostic capabilities, supporting patient care through efficient testing and equipment troubleshooting.
Essential Functions Diagnostic Accuracy:
Performs and reports moderate and high complexity laboratory tests with high precision and timely documentation.
Quality Assurance:
Adheres to Quality Control (QC) procedures, analyzes data, and executes corrective actions for out-of-range results.
Preventative Maintenance:
Conducts scheduled instrument function checks (daily, weekly, and monthly) per laboratory policy.
Technical Troubleshooting:
Identifies instrument malfunctions and performs corrective actions or coordinates with manufacturers for repairs.
Safety Standards:
Maintains compliance with OSHA and the Laboratory Safety Plan, ensuring proper PPE usage.
Clinical Communication:
Relays critical patient results and instrument status updates to supervisors and healthcare staff.
Regulatory Support:
Assists with proficiency testing and data collection for accreditation (CAP, CLIA, Joint Commission).
Specimen Collection:
Collects chain-of-custody urine drug screens and performs phlebotomy duties as needed.
Teamwork:
Collaborates with night shift peers to ensure all department responsibilities are completed accurately. Qualifications Education (Required - One of the following) Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Science. Passing score on the Clinical Laboratory Technology Proficiency examination approved by HHS (HEW). Experience (Required) 0-2 years of acute care experience. Licenses and Certifications (Required - One of the following) ASCP - Medical Technologist Medical Laboratory Technologist (AMT) Medical Laboratory Technologist (AAB) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Deep understanding of clinical laboratory procedures, QC protocols, and safety regulations. Ability to troubleshoot technical issues with laboratory hardware and software. Strong organizational and time management skills to handle high-volume testing deadlines.
