The Medical Lab Scientist performs complex and routine laboratory testing to support accurate and timely diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. This position requires strong analytical skills, technical expertise, and the ability to work independently within a high-volume clinical laboratory environment. Job Duties /
Responsibilities:
Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing based on established criteria. Perform routine and complex laboratory testing procedures in accordance with departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation to ensure optimal performance. Make sound technical decisions related to testing, troubleshooting, and problem-solving. Prepare, test, and evaluate reagents, controls, and calibration standards. Report accurate and timely test results to support quality patient care. Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control (QC) procedures. Maintain adequate inventory of testing supplies and reagents. Assist with specimen processing and handling as needed. Ensure compliance with safety protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology, or equivalent per CLIA/state regulations. 2-4 years of clinical laboratory testing experience required. State Medical Technologist license (if applicable per location). ASCP or AMT certification (preferred or required depending on role). Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Proficiency in computer systems; experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) is a plus. Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and communication skills. Ability to pass a color vision test. Flexibility to work overtime or alternate shifts based on business needs.
