Job Description

Job Summary KY Public Health AmeriCorps volunteers will become Community Health Workers (CHW) to serve in any or all of the following core public health programs within
Local Health Departments:
1) WIC, or the Special Supplemental Nutritional Program for
Women, Infants and Children:
provides nutritional counseling, healthy foods, breastfeeding support and referrals to additional resources. 2) HANDS, a voluntary home visitation program for moms, dads and families. HANDS members answer questions and provide parents with support in developing a parent-child relationship at no cost to the family. 3)
Harm Reduction:
Harm Reduction Syringe Service Programs (HRSSP) are community-based programs that provide access to sterile needles and syringes, safe disposal of used syringes, and other comprehensive harm reduction services. 4)
Health Education and Outreach:
Promote health department initiatives through outreach and education efforts within the community, through events and one-on-one encounters with individuals. AmeriCorps is a federally funded national service program and is supported by the Serve Kentucky state commission. Duties
  • The AmeriCorps volunteer serving with the Lawrence County Health Department may serve within the Harm Reduction, WIC, and/or Health Education & Outreach programs . This position, a 1200-hour term, is approximately 25-27 hours per week from September 1
  • July 31, 2027. Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED, additional education or health related experience is a plus
  • AmeriCorps volunteers are required to serve 1200 hours beginning September 1 and ending no later than July 31, 2027.
  • AmeriCorps members must undergo a National Service Criminal History Check process
Benefits:
AmeriCorps volunteers will receive Community Health Worker (CHW) certification during their term of service. Upon successful completion of service (completing all service hours) members are eligible to receive an education award of $5,176. Volunteers may also be eligible for health care coverage, childcare assistance and student loan forbearance. All members will be asked to complete a KYPHA application and National Criminal History Check Consent form at: www.khda-ky.org/kypha
