Job Description

This is an AmeriCorps/Washington Service Corps national service position. It is contingent on funding and open until filled. Tacoma Community House is a nationally respected community center. We serve immigrants, refugees, and other residents seeking enrichment and pathways to self-sufficiency. We provide 3,500 program services to 3,200 individuals from over 115 countries every year. We focus on four core programs: Immigration, Education, Employment, Community Health, Youth Housing, and Advocacy (for crime victims). The member will support immigrants who are incarcerated or recently released from detention by providing information and guidance on accessing health services and community resources. They will also recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers to help expand outreach and support efforts, strengthening access to care and improving overall well-being for vulnerable immigrant populations. Preference will be given to applicants that speak at least one of the following languages: Spanish, Farsi, Dari, or Arabic. It is not required for applicants to be proficient in all four languages. The start date may be flexible into October for the right candidate. We expect to begin rolling review of applications and interviews in late July.
Monthly stipend amount:
$2,438.
Member Duties :
The Immigrant Wellbeing Advocate will help ensure immigrants who are incarcerated or recently released are connected to immediate and ongoing healthcare supports. They will visit detention centers; counsel immigrants on navigating the healthcare system and identifying available services; refer immigrants to community-based resources; recruit and train volunteers; represent Tacoma Community House at outreach events.
