Job Description

East Central District Health Department is hiring a Disease Surveillance Coordinator to support communicable disease surveillance, case investigations, outbreak response, public health reporting, and data management. This position works with healthcare providers, laboratories, schools, long-term care facilities, and Nebraska DHHS to help monitor disease trends and protect community health. What You'll Do Monitor and investigate reportable communicable diseases Review and manage disease reports through NEDSS and other systems Conduct case investigations, interviews, exposure assessments, and contact tracing Maintain accurate case records in state and local surveillance systems Provide disease control education to individuals, providers, schools, and community partners Assist with outbreak investigations and emerging public health threats Participate in public health emergency preparedness and response activities Support public health reporting, performance management, and accreditation efforts Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Nursing, Health Sciences, Community Health, or a related field One year of experience in public health, healthcare, disease surveillance, epidemiology, or a related field Relevant internship, practicum, or field experience may be considered. Preferred Qualifications Master of Public Health, or related degree Experience with communicable disease investigations Experience using NEDSS, NESIIS, REDCap, or similar systems Registered Nurse licensure Bilingual English/Spanish skills Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, professional, and comfortable working with sensitive health information.
