Job Description

Position Overview CCLS-NJ is a language school located in the heart of the Ironbound section of Newark, serving the local community for over 20 years. We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated International Student Advisor - Designated School Official (DSO) to join our vibrant academic community. In this vital role, you will serve as the primary point of contact for international students, guiding them through visa regulations, academic planning, and cultural integration. The responsibilities of this position will include: Qualifying for and filling the role of a Designated School Official (DSO), as outlined by SEVP and the Department of Homeland Security. Being the primary point of contact for the international students, starting with the response to inquiries from prospective students, providing guidance and enrollment information and documents. Providing guidance regarding enrollment, immigration, financial, personal or cultural concerns related to studying in the US. Processing the student enrollment, and I-20 forms in SEVIS, and sending to the prospective students. Guiding the students through the Visa application process. Monitoring the activities of the students (arrival in the US, classroom attendance and progress, and ultimate completion of studies and return to the home country). Monitoring the I-20 application and Visa progress in SEVIS. Advise international students (and their dependents) to assist them in maintaining their legal immigration status. Manage and process any changes in status. Maintain accurate and comprehensive student files by following recordkeeping procedures. Qualifications Bachelor's degree Strong Communication Skills Excellent fluency of English Knowledge of a second language preferred Act as the designated school official (DSO) responsible for managing international student records and ensuring compliance with federal immigration regulations. Knowledge of federal immigration policies related to F-1 and J-1 visa regulations; certification or training as a DSO is highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to mentor students effectively while providing comprehensive individual or group counseling. Strong communication skills with the ability to engage confidently in public speaking and facilitate group discussions.
