Actively Interviewing for Medical Lab Scientist I to join leading diagnostic client supporting top hospital in Birmingham, AL. Job Description We are seeking a highly motivated Medical Lab Scientist I to join our dynamic team in Birmingham. This role involves performing a variety of laboratory tests and procedures, contributing to patient care by delivering accurate and timely results. Responsibilities Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria. Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures. Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality. Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem-solving. Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls. Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care. Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures. Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary. Assist with processing of specimens when needed. Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or meet local regulatory CLIA State requirements. 0-2 years of clinical laboratory testing experience. At least 1 year of microbiology testing experience. Experience with microbiology testing, including plate reading and gram staining. Familiarity with Cerner or Epic systems. ASCP or AMT certification preferred. Ability to work independently and within a team environment. Proficient with computers and laboratory information systems. High level of attention to detail, strong communication, and organizational skills. Ability to pass a standardized color vision screen. Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs. Additional Skills & Qualifications State Medical Technologist license may be required. Familiarity with general laboratory and microbiology departments. Experience in reading plates, reading susceptibilities, and general lab procedures. Work Environment The position is based in a hospital laboratory setting at 50 Medical Park East Drive, Birmingham, AL. The role supports the Core Lab with a specific focus on Microbiology. The working hours are from 5:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with 10-hour days and every other weekend required. Scheduling is done one month in advance. The team is currently short-staffed, and there is an opportunity for longevity and growth within a reputable company. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Birmingham, AL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $36.00/hr.
