• Job Summary and Qualifications
• The Cytotechnologist / Cytotech is responsible for preparation and storage of all specimens and necessary documentation. Prepares stains and slides for reading by Cytotechnologist or review by the Pathologist.

• ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• + •Stains, mounts and studies cells of human body to detect evidence of cancer, hormonal abnormalities and other pathological conditions, following established standards and practices: Prepares microscopic slides from specimens of blood, scrapings or other bodily exudates and fixes stains and slide to preserve specimen and enhance visibility of cells under microscope.
• + •Examine cell samples to detect abnormal hormone conditions.
• + •Examine cell samples to detect abnormalities in the color, shape or size of cellular components and patterns.
• + •Evaluate cells for the presence of cancer, precancerous changes or infections.
• + •Prepare and analyze samples, such as Papanicolaou (PAP) smear body fluids and fine needle aspirations (FNAs) to detect abnormal conditions.
• + •Provide patient clinical data or microscopic findings to assist pathologists in the preparation of pathology reports.
• + •Assist Pathologists or other physicians to collect cell samples such as by fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsies.
• + •Quality Assurance in the laboratory including the maintenance of the system in accordance with the requirements of the College of the American Pathologists and preparation for site visits.
• + •Prepare slides and reports in a timely fashion, ensuring Q.

• + •Perform other duties as necessary for efficient operation of the department.
• + •Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care or the services delivered.

• + •Follows established guidelines for reporting a significant medical error or unanticipated outcome in the patient's care which results in patient harm.

• EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
