- Job Summary and Qualifications
- The•Cytotechnologist /•Cytotech•is responsible for•preparation and storage of all specimens and necessary documentation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- + •Stains,•mounts,•and studies cells of human body to detect evidence of cancer, hormonal abnormalities and other pathological conditions, following established standards and practices: Prepares microscopic slides from specimens of blood,•scrapings,•or other bodily exudates and fixes stains and slide to•preserve specimen•and enhance visibility of cells under microscope.
- + •Examine cell samples to detect abnormal hormone conditions.
- + •Examine cell samples to detect abnormalities in the color,•shape,•or size of cellular components and patterns.
- + •Evaluate cells for the presence of cancer,•precancero•us•changes,•or infections.
- + •Prepare and analyze samples, such as Papanicolaou (PAP) smear•body fluids and fine needle aspirations (•FNAs) to detect•abnormal conditions•.
- + •Provide patient clinical data or microscopic findings•to assist pathologists•in the preparation of pathology reports.
- + •Assist Pathologists or other physicians to•collect cell samples such as•by fine•needle aspiration (FNA) biopsies.
- + •Quality Assurance in the laboratory including the maintenance of the system•in accordance with the•requirements of the College of the American Pathologists and preparation for site visits.
- + •Prepare slides and reports in•a timely fashion•, ensuring Q.
- + •Maintain procedures and records•to meet all regulatory standards•.
- + •Perform other duties as necessary for efficient operation of the department.
- + •Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care or the services delivered.
- + •Demonstrates knowledge of the occurrence reporting system.
- Uses system to
- report potential patient safety issues.
- + •Follows established guidelines for reporting a significant medical error or una•nticipated outcome in the patient's care which results in patient harm.
- + •Attends in-service presentations and completes all mandatory education requirements.
- Uses
- Performance Improvement Plan to improve patient safety.
- + •Regular, Punctual and•dependable attendance.
- + •Prepare and maintain reagents•and equipment.
