Position Summary:
The Technologist will be responsible for routine collection of a comprehensive set of biological specimens (tissue, blood, urine, etc.) and complete clinical data from properly consented patients. This position may also perform phlebotomy and specimen processing. UTMC Organizational Priorities:
Service, Efficiency/Effectiveness or Quality/Safety. Patient Interactions a. Works with clinical staff to coordinate patient interactions. b. Responsible for the identification and consent of eligible patients. c. Interacts with patients to obtain consent and clinical data acquisition. EMR Duties a. Screens EMRs to identify potentially eligible patients. b. Reviews EMR and perioperative reports to complete clinical data abstraction. Quality and Safety Tissue Specimens a. Receives resected tumor/tissue from surgeon/care provider and responsible for timely transport of tissue to pathology. Works closely with pathology team to obtain all excess tissue available for research and plans. b. Plans and performs dissection of tissue specimen according to standard operating procedures. c. Processes tissue for storage and distribution to partner sites, collaborators, and sponsor. d. Supports various prospective tissue collections, tissue shipments, and tissue/data release requests. Quality Assurance and Control Checks a. Regularly performs quality assurance and control checks. b. Responsible for ensuring freezer temperatures are adequately monitored 24ll. c. Responsible for general upkeep in the lab. d. Ensures trainings and certifications are up to date, including but not limited to: all CIT/ (Hf PAA and Human Subjects), IATAIDOT certifications, and all safety trainings.

Education:
High School Diploma Required, Bachelor's degree in a physical science preferred 1-3 months related experience and/or training
