The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in dental assisting, with specialized knowledge in oral surgery procedures, patient care, and clinical support. As an Oral Surgery Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring smooth surgical operations, providing exceptional patient care, and maintaining the highest standards of safety and hygiene. This position offers an engaging environment for professionals committed to advancing their expertise in oral and maxillofacial procedures while contributing to improved patient outcomes. Responsibilities Prepare treatment rooms with sterile instruments and supplies, adhering to aseptic techniques and infection control protocols. Assist the oral surgeon during surgical procedures, including extractions, biopsies, and implant placements, ensuring all necessary tools are available and properly handled. Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), including 3D scans when applicable, to assist in diagnosis and treatment planning. Manage patient records efficiently using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Educate patients on pre- and post-operative care instructions, addressing questions related to dental terminology, medication protocols, and recovery processes. Monitor vital signs and medical documentation during appointments to ensure patient safety throughout procedures. Maintain a clean, organized clinical environment by following infection control standards and sterilization procedures. Document appropriate notes during consultations and all patient visits. Perform other tasks such as scheduling appointments and treatment coordinating as needed, ensuring smooth clinic operations. Skills Proficiency in dental assisting techniques with experience in chairside assisting for oral surgery procedures. Familiarity with EMR systems like Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic for managing medical records and documentation. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations related to patient privacy and data security. Strong understanding of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and medical terminology relevant to oral surgery. Experience with X-ray imaging techniques including 3D scanners for comprehensive diagnostics. Ability to perform vital signs assessment and assist with medical imaging procedures accurately. Expertise in infection control practices, aseptic technique, and maintaining a sterile environment during surgeries. Background in pediatric dentistry or pediatrics is advantageous for working with younger patients requiring oral surgery interventions. Excellent communication skills tailored to explaining complex procedures clearly to patients of diverse backgrounds. Back office oral surgery dental assisting involves a variety of tasks as a member of the back office team, including: assisting the doctor during oral surgery charting notes sterilizing instruments coordinating and maintaining implant inventory, medications, and supplies preparing the patients for surgery setting up rooms and trays giving patients pre-operative and post-operative instructions treatment planning which involves preparing the estimate of the total cost of the proposed services and explaining the cost and details of the recommended treatment to the patient Experience in any dental or oral surgery office needed.
