The Florida Department of Health (DOH) is responsible for the health and safety of all citizens and visitors to the state. As a public health agency, the Florida Department of Health must monitor the health status of Floridians, diagnose, and investigate health problems, and mobilize local communities to address health-related issues. Open Competitive Your Specific Responsibilities:
Completes monthly state dental activity reports and Ryan White demographic reports. Certification for X-ray operation and dental assistance is required. The incumbent will be in charge with initial & follow up interviews of dental patients as well as maintaining their records and scheduling their appointments. The position provides assistance to the Dentist and Dental Hygienist, and therefore, the incumbent will have to be able to maintain the equipment, prepare dental materials, sterilization and infection control.
Chair side assistance:
assisting the dentist in providing dental treatment. Patient management during dental procedures. Dental procedure isolation techniques. Prepares trays with instruments, supplies and equipment, passes them on to dentist or dental hygienist as requested. Sterilizes/disinfects and maintains the dental instruments and dental equipment. Cleans the instrument cabinet and maintains sterile supplies. Dental room treatment disinfections. Exposes and develops X-rays. Data entry input and retrieval into electronic health record, EagleSoft, CAREWare, e2Hillsborough, Health Management System (HMS) or any other clinical electronic database necessary to maintain the oral health program. Input may include clinical, administrative and/or billing information on oral health clients. Maintains records of the dental patients. Enters data on services performed by the Dental Clinic on a monthly basis. Business records management. Prepares the billing for Medicaid patients. Patient reception. Performs initial intake interview of the new patients of the Dental Clinic. Collects and records patient health history. Patient records management. Schedules and confirms initial and follow up appointments for the Dental Clinic.
Preparation of dental materials:
mixes cements, amalgam, composite, impression materials, prepares bite guards. Orders dental supplies, manages and maintains inventory for the
Dental Clinic Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to operate Panorex x-ray equipment, bitewing x-ray equipment, autoclave/sterilizer Ability to operate commonly used office equipment such as computers, printers, fax machine, label maker, paper shredder. Ability to use Microsoft 365 applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, MS Teams). Knowledge of general office procedures and practices. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work duties. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to learn and use multiple database systems, including but not limited to EagleSoft (electronic dental record), Health Management System (DOH electronic health record), e2 Hillsborough (Ryan White Part A electronic health record), CAREWare (Ryan White Part B & General Revenue electronic health record). Bi-lingual in English and Spanish preferred

6 months of customer service or administrative experience
