Responsibilities Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry. Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up necessary supplies, and ensuring all equipment is functioning properly. Take and develop dental radiographs (X-ray images), ensuring proper technique and patient safety in compliance with infection control standards. Manage patient records by updating medical histories, documenting treatments accurately, and maintaining confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Support patient care by taking vital signs, explaining procedures, and addressing patient questions to foster comfort and trust. Operate electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix to document medical information and treatment plans efficiently. Maintain infection control protocols using aseptic techniques, proper sterilization procedures, and adherence to OSHA guidelines. Assist with dental imaging using advanced tools like 3D scanners when necessary for comprehensive diagnostics. Coordinate with the dental team as a chairside assistant during procedures, providing materials and support for four-handed dentistry practices. Handle administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing patient flow as a dental receptionist, and ensuring smooth clinic operations. Skills Proficiency with dental software systems including Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic for managing medical records and documentation. Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to dentistry. Experience with X-ray techniques and medical imaging technology to produce clear diagnostic images safely. Familiarity with infection control practices, aseptic techniques, and sterilization procedures essential for maintaining a safe clinical environment. Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently while supporting multiple specialties such as pediatric dentistry or prosthodontics. Understanding of HIPAA regulations related to patient privacy and medical documentation standards. Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with patients of all ages including pediatrics; capable of explaining procedures clearly. Knowledge of medical coding applicable to dental procedures for accurate billing and record-keeping purposes. Experience working with EMR systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix to document treatments accurately and retrieve patient information swiftly.
