Job Description
Expanded Duties Dental Assistant Job Overview Join our dynamic dental team as an Expanded Duties Dental Assistant, where your expertise will directly enhance patient care and operational efficiency. In this vital role, you will perform clinical procedures, assist with dental treatments, and support the overall workflow of our practice. Your proactive approach and attention to detail will ensure a smooth patient experience while adhering to all safety and confidentiality standards. Duties Assist dentists with a wide range of procedures including oral surgery, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry, ensuring optimal patient comfort and safety. Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), including digital imaging, make digital impression 3D scans, and take intraoral photos, following strict infection prevention protocols. Prepare and sterilize dental instruments and equipment in accordance with infection control policies and aseptic techniques. Manage patient records using electronic medical record (EMR) system, Dentrix Ascend, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Perform vital signs assessments and medical history updates to support comprehensive patient evaluations. Educate patients on oral health care practices, post-treatment instructions, and preventive measures tailored to their needs. Support administrative operations by managing patient scheduling, check-in/out processes, and insurance documentation as a dental receptionist when needed. Safely drive our vans from the storage facility to the work site each day. Skills Proficiency in EMR systems like Dentrix or similar software for efficient patient management. Strong knowledge of dental terminology, clinical procedures, and anatomy relevant to general dentistry and pediatric dentistry. Experience with dental x-ray techniques, including intraoral and extraoral imaging; familiarity with 3D scanners is a plus. Expertise in dental sterilization procedures, infection prevention management, and aseptic technique to maintain a safe clinical environment. Ability to perform chairside assisting with four-handed dentistry techniques for increased efficiency during procedures. Knowledge of medical documentation standards and medical terminology for accurate record keeping. Familiarity with dental equipment operation such as ultrasonic scalers, curing lights, dental handpieces, and prosthodontic tools. Understanding of healthcare infection control policies aligned with OSHA standards. Excellent communication skills for patient care delivery and collaboration within the dental team. Experience working in pediatric dentistry or clinics specializing in pediatric patients is highly desirable. Driver's License and good driving record with no major speeding violations or major accidents in the last five (5) years.
