Position Summary The Dental Assistant plays a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care in alignment with the compassionate, patient-first philosophy of Chestnut Dental Associates. This position supports clinical efficiency and excellence by assisting providers, ensuring operatory readiness, and creating a positive, comfortable experience for every patient. All responsibilities are performed with accuracy, efficiency, and a strong team-oriented mindset. Reports to Department Clinical Supervisor or Clinical Supervisor (per location) Required Qualifications Current Dental Assisting License (Massachusetts Board of Registration in Dentistry) Current Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) Certification Current CPR (BLS) Certification Completion of required continuing education units Hepatitis B vaccination (recommended per CDC guidelines) Core Competencies Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal Friendly, professional demeanor with a patient-centered approach Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment Adaptability to schedule changes and clinical demands Commitment to maintaining clinical excellence and staying current with industry standards Collaborative team player who supports colleagues and contributes to a positive work environment Clinical Responsibilities Prepare and break down sterilization areas daily, including autoclave and ultrasonic equipment Review patient charts and update medical histories at the start of each shift Ensure operatories are fully stocked, clean, and ready for each procedure Greet, seat, and prepare patients for treatment, maintaining a calm and supportive environment Anticipate provider needs and assist chairside during all procedures Take high-quality intraoral and extraoral radiographs Provide patient and parent education, including oral hygiene and post-operative instructions Perform coronal polishing for new and periodic exam patients (as permitted) Pour, trim, and fabricate dental models and appliances Properly handle, transport, and sterilize instruments in accordance with infection control protocols Assist in the operation and maintenance of clinical equipment (e.g., autoclave, suction, X-ray units, handpieces) Accurately chart procedures, update patient records, and document treatment plans Prepare route slips and ensure accurate communication for patient check-out Escort patients to the front desk and coordinate scheduling needs Monitor inventory levels and support supply ordering processes Participate in team meetings, training, and ongoing professional development Ensure compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and all CDA policies and procedures Maintain flexibility to support varying schedules and operational needs Perform additional duties as assigned Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. This is an active position requiring prolonged standing, walking, bending, and sitting. The role requires manual dexterity, strong hand-eye coordination, and adequate vision. The employee must regularly use hands to handle instruments and equipment, communicate effectively, and reach with arms and hands. The ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds is required. Exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other clinical risks is expected; adherence to OSHA safety standards and completion of required training is mandatory.
