Job Description

The Front Desk Receptionist / Dental Assistant is a dual-role position designed for a highly organized, patient-focused individual who can manage administrative responsibilities while also stepping in to provide chairside dental assistance when needed. This hybrid role ensures smooth daily operations, exceptional patient experiences, and clinical support during busy periods or staff shortages. Key Responsibilities Front Desk & Administrative Duties Patient Scheduling — Manage appointments, confirmations, cancellations, and daily schedule flow. Patient Check-In/Out — Greet patients warmly, verify information, and ensure a smooth visit from arrival to departure. Insurance Coordination — Verify benefits, obtain pre-authorizations, and communicate coverage details to patients. Billing & Payments — Collect co-pays, process payments, and assist with account inquiries. Phone & Communication Management — Answer calls, respond to messages, and maintain professional communication. Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming reception area. Protect patient privacy and maintain HIPAA compliance. Clinical & Dental Assisting Duties (As Needed) Chairside Assistance — Assist the dentist during procedures, including passing instruments and preparing materials. Room Preparation — Set up and break down operatories before and after procedures. Sterilization — Clean, disinfect, and sterilize instruments following OSHA and CDC guidelines. Take digital X-rays and intraoral photos as permitted by state regulations. Provide patient education on post-op instructions, oral hygiene, and treatment plans. Maintain inventory of clinical supplies and assist with ordering. Qualifications Previous experience as a dental receptionist and/or dental assistant preferred. X-ray certification (state-specific) strongly preferred. Strong communication, multitasking, and organizational skills. Knowledge of dental terminology, procedures, and insurance codes. Proficiency with dental practice management software (e.g., Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Open Dental). Ability to maintain professionalism and compassion in a fast-paced environment. Work Environment This role involves:
Frequent interaction with patients and team members. Periods of standing, bending, and assisting chairside. A balance of administrative desk work and hands-on clinical support.
Pay:
$27.00 - $33.00 per hour
