Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) to join our dynamic dental team. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of dental procedures, excellent clinical skills, and a strong commitment to patient care and safety. As an EFDA, you will perform advanced chairside assisting, including procedures that require expanded functions authorized by state regulations, while supporting the delivery of high-quality dental services in a fast-paced environment. This role offers an opportunity to contribute significantly to patient outcomes through precise technical work and compassionate care. Responsibilities Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including restorative, prosthodontic, and endodontic treatment. Perform expanded functions such as placing fillings, applying sealants, and taking preliminary impressions under dentist supervision in accordance with state regulations. Operate and maintain dental equipment including X-ray machines, 3D scanners, and medical imaging devices while ensuring proper sterilization and infection control protocols are followed. Manage patient records accurately using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as OPEN DENTAL, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations for patient privacy. Take vital signs and assist with medical documentation to support comprehensive patient assessments. Maintain a sterile environment through aseptic techniques and proper infection control practices to ensure patient safety. Support administrative tasks including dental receptionist duties when necessary, managing appointment scheduling and patient communication effectively. Collaborate with the dental team to provide exceptional care in general dentistry and specialized fields such as prosthodontics and pediatrics. Stay current with advancements in dental terminology, medical coding, and relevant clinical procedures to enhance service quality. Requirements Valid Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) certification or licensure as per state requirements. Proven experience in dental assisting within a clinical setting. Strong knowledge of infection control standards, aseptic technique, anatomy, and dental terminology. Ability to operate X-ray equipment safely while adhering to radiation safety guidelines; experience with medical imaging is preferred. Competence in taking vital signs and performing chairside assisting across multiple specialties including endodontics and prosthodontics. Familiarity with medical documentation, medical records management, and medical coding practices related to dentistry. Excellent communication skills combined with a professional attitude; ability to work effectively within a team environment supporting general dentistry operations. $25.00 - $33.00 per hour
