Job Description

An employee in this class performs clerical duties in the front office of the Health Department Pediatric Dental Clinic. An employee in this class will perform a variety of administrative functions in the front office. Work involves answering phones, greeting the public, checking patients in/out, assisting with completing necessary forms, entering information into the computer system, collecting payments, and verifying insurance. Employee will have direct public contact in the form of in-person and/or telephone. This position works under the direct supervision of the Dental Hygienist I. Answers the telephone and transfers calls to the appropriate person and/ or takes messages. Greet and treats the public in a courteous and respectful manner. Assists patients in making and/or changing appointments. Corresponds with patients in regards to payments and missed appointments. Completes all necessary documents as indicated by type of visit. Verifies patient insurance coverage by using multiple insurance platforms (NC Tracks, Delta Dental, etc.). Maintains patient records. Prepares patient records upon request (patient/guardian/court/etc.). Maintains ample supply of forms and office supplies in the front office. This position will cross train with the clinic front desk duties as assigned. This position has been identified to have responsibilities in the Preparedness Plan for the Health Department. In the case of an event within the county the employee is required to work at a specified location in-house or off-site as identified in various Health Department Emergency Response Plans (e.g., Preparedness Plan, Pan Flu, etc.). Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge of general office procedures and necessary skills for running office equipment. Must have ability to work closely and tactfully with the public. Ability to communicate effectively in-person and by telephone. Must be organized and have the ability to multi-task. Ability to work in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems, Insurance Verification Platforms, and Microsoft. High School diploma and one year of clerical experience; or Equivalent combination of training and experience. Possess a valid NC Driver's License.
