A Dental Assistant assists dentists in caring for patient's teeth. Helps patients get ready for treatment; prepares equipment and supplies. May perform some dental procedures under the direction of a dentist, such as fluoride application, if allowed under state regulations. Works in dental offices.
The Endodontic Dental Assistant provides support to the endodontist and team, assisting with specialized dental procedures, maintaining sterile environments, and ensuring quality patient care. This role requires flexibility, a strong understanding of endodontic procedures, and the ability to quickly adapt to the office environment and workflows.
Key Responsibilities:
Procedure Assistance:
Assist the endodontist during specialized procedures such as root canals, apicoectomies, and other endodontic treatments. Ensure the operatory is properly prepared and set up for each patient, including the sterilization and arrangement of instruments and materials. Take and process digital X-rays to assist in diagnosis and treatment planning. Adhere to strict infection control and sterilization protocols in compliance with OSHA standards. Provide chairside support, including the use of suction devices, retractors, and instruments during procedures.
Patient Care:
Welcome and prepare patients for their procedures, ensuring they feel comfortable and informed. Provide pre- and post-treatment instructions to patients, explaining the care required after procedures. Answer patient inquiries regarding endodontic procedures, treatment plans, and recovery expectations.
Administrative Support:
Maintain accurate and updated patient records, including documentation of treatments, X-rays, and progress notes. Collaborate with front office staff for smooth patient flow, assisting with patient check-in and appointment scheduling if necessary. Ensure the availability of all necessary patient information before procedures, including health history and X-rays.
Sterilization and Equipment Management:
Sterilize instruments and disinfect treatment areas following each procedure. Ensure all equipment, instruments, and supplies are functioning properly and report any issues to the office manager. Help manage inventory levels by reporting low supplies or re-stocking items as needed.
Team Collaboration:
Quickly integrate into the team, communicating effectively with the endodontist and other staff members. Follow office protocols and guidelines while assisting the dental team with various tasks. Provide support to other dental assistants or administrative staff as needed.
Qualifications:
Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) or equivalent preferred; endodontic experience a must. Previous experience as a dental assistant in a fast-paced environment, ideally in endodontics or a specialty field. Strong knowledge of dental instruments, procedures, and terminology specific to endodontics. Ability to take and process digital X-rays. Familiarity with infection control and OSHA standards. Flexibility to work on an as-needed basis with potential short notice. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt quickly. Excellent patient care skills and professional demeanor. CPR certification is preferred or willingness to obtain certification upon hire.
