Responsibilities:
You will be responsible for the following: Assist the oral surgeon during surgical procedures including extractions, implant placement, bone grafting, biopsies, and other in-office surgeries. Prepare the treatment room, surgical trays, instruments, and anesthesia equipment. Monitor patients during surgery, including managing suction, passing instruments, and maintaining sterile technique. Take and process panoramic, periapical, and 3D cone beam CT images as needed. Provide detailed post-operative instructions to patients and caregivers. Sterilize instruments and maintain a clean, OSHA-compliant surgical environment. Record patient medical histories, treatment notes, and surgical documentation accurately. Manage inventory of surgical supplies and ensure timely ordering and restocking. Support patient education and build trust through clear communication and professionalism. Assist with sedation monitoring (nitrous and IV), following office protocols and state guidelines. Serve as a primary point of contact for patients, ensuring an exceptional patient experience from consultation through post-operative care. Coordinate patient scheduling, treatment appointments, and surgical procedures. Verify insurance benefits and assist patients in understanding treatment plans, financial arrangements, and available payment options. Communicate with referring offices regarding patient scheduling, treatment updates, and necessary documentation. Answer patient questions, address concerns, and facilitate communication between patients, providers, and team members. Obtain and review medical histories, insurance information, consent forms, and other required documentation. Complete pre-operative and post-operative patient follow-up calls to ensure continuity of care and patient satisfaction. Maintain accurate patient records and ensure all documentation is completed in accordance with HIPAA guidelines. Assist with treatment plan presentation and case acceptance by educating patients on recommended procedures and next steps. Support front office operations as needed, including patient check-in, check-out, and administrative tasks.
Qualifications:
You will be required to possess the following: 2+ years of experience as a dental assistant, preferably in an oral surgery or surgical dental setting. Proficient in surgical assisting techniques and infection control protocols. Comfortable with taking high-quality radiographs and CBCT scans. Able to anticipate needs during procedures and remain calm under pressure. Excellent verbal communication, interpersonal skills, and patient rapport. Reliable, punctual, detail-oriented, and a strong team player. Ability to maintain discretion, professionalism, and confidentiality. Dental Assistant certification or registration preferred, as required by state law. Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Nitrous Oxide Monitoring and/or Sedation Assistant certification, if required or available in your state, is a plus.
