Job Description

Bilingual Spanish Preferred. Experience working in a federally qualified heath center preferred. Under minimal supervision, provides dental hygiene services in accordance with regulations of licensure in Arizona. Performs dental prophylaxis, preventative periodontal treatment, including coronal polishing and complete calculus removal. Administers fluoride treatments. Screens patient vital signs and documents procedures. Evaluates individual needs in brushing and flossing techniques. Educates patients regarding the need for daily plaque removal at home. Assesses, documents, and participates in the planning of treatment and evaluation of therapy. Administers local anesthetic agents as needed. Takes, exposes, and processes diagnostic x rays. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Education:
Associate's Degree in Dental Hygiene from an accredited dental hygiene school.
Experience :
No experience required.
Additional Requirements:
Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license. Must possess Dental Hygienist License in the State of Arizona. Must possess Dental X-Ray License. Must possess Basic Life Support for the Health Care Professionals. Must possess a current fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
Principles and procedures of providing dental hygiene. Policies regarding laboratory specimens, documentation, patient care, cleaning and stocking, and hazardous waste. Basic dental care methods and practices. Dental office operations. Business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and composition. Clerical office practices and procedures. Research techniques and report writing. Current Microsoft Office software. Filing and recordkeeping.
Skill in:
Leadership and teamwork. Demonstrating care, concern, and courtesy when dealing with people. Communicating effectively verbally and in writing and communicating orally in a face-to-face setting and by telephone with public and employees. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public. Organization and adherence to detail.
Ability to:
Document services provided in accordance with accepted department level of standard of care. Travel to all clinic sites. Take and review patient medical histories. Maintain an efficient patient workflow within the designated template. Complete patient care and associated documentation within identified timelines. Participate in the development of the dental program's long-range plan. Abide by all department policies and HIPAA guidelines. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations, County officials, and the public. Keep management informed of key operating issues affecting the department. Remain current in knowledge required to perform assigned duties. Handle confidential matters and maintain discretion always. Act with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.
Work Environment:
The work environment is associated with a dental office. The work area is adequately lighted, heated or cooled and ventilated. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to blood and body fluids and occasionally may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Sufficient vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech ability to communicate effective in-person and telephonically. Capable of frequent repetitive movement of arms, fingers, and wrists. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
