The Dental Hygienist will provide preventive and dental hygiene services to Adults in Custody (AICs) at the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Lexington.

Fayette County, Kentucky Schedule:

We are currently pooling candidates for the following schedules: Position 1 - Full-Time Monday-Friday Up to 40 hours per week Clinic hours: 6:00 AM-2:30 PM Position 2 - Part-Time Tuesday-Thursday Approximately 24 hours per week Clinic hours: 6:00 AM-2:30 PM Occasional schedule adjustments may be required based on facility operations. No services are provided on Federal holidays. Key Responsibilities Perform dental prophylaxis and preventive dental hygiene services. Provide oral hygiene instruction and patient education. Assess and document oral hygiene and periodontal conditions. Perform periodontal charting, scaling, root planing, calculus removal, and other authorized nonsurgical periodontal therapy. Take dental radiographs as ordered or authorized. Accurately and timely document patient care in BEMR (the electronic medical record used by the Bureau of Prisons) . Review medical and dental histories and identify concerns requiring dentist review. Prepare the operatory and instruments for patient care. Communicate significant clinical findings and urgent dental concerns to the dentist and clinical staff. Follow infection-control, PPE, sterilization, sharps, and facility safety procedures. Required Qualifications Active, unrestricted Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) license authorizing practice in Kentucky or a compact state. Current CPR/BLS certification acceptable to the Government. Ability to provide required license and certification documentation. Ability to meet required health and communicable-disease documentation requirements. No prior correctional healthcare experience is required. Work Environment This is an onsite position in a Federal correctional healthcare facility .

The selected candidate must:

Be comfortable working with an adult-in-custody population. Follow facility security, privacy, safety, and professional-boundary requirements. Complete approximately 4 hours of institutional orientation plus required annual refresher training. Wear professional, loose-fitting, solid-colored scrubs and appropriate clinical footwear. Khaki and green scrubs are not permitted.
