Job Description

We are seeking our next Part-Time Supplemental Instructor - Dental Hygiene who will be all-in on our mission and who will be crucial in providing hands-on training, guidance, and supervision to dental hygiene students during clinical sessions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in dental hygiene practice, excellent communication skills, and a passion for educating the next generation of dental hygiene students. This position is filled on an as need basis, contingent upon institutional needs.
EDUCATION
:
Required:
Associate's Degree.
Preferred:
Bachelor's Degree.
EXPERIENCE
:
Required:
Three (3) years of recent clinical dental hygiene experience.
Preferred:
Proficiency in dental hygiene software, electronic health records, and digital radiography systems.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
:
Required:
Graduate from a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA). Current and unencumbered license to practice dental hygiene in Texas. Supervise students during clinical sessions, ensuring proper techniques, safety, and ethics. Provide constructive feedback to enhance student clinical skills. Foster an engaging and critical thinking-focused learning environment. Collaborate with program faculty to design and update curriculum content. Assist in the preparation and administration of clinical assessments and evaluations. Instruct and assess students in lab, preclinical and clinical settings. Maintain student progress records. Contribute to student recruitment and retention efforts. Ensure effective communication throughout responsibilities. Create a safe instructional environment, including managing clinical equipment and materials. Engage in continuous quality improvement efforts to enhance the effectiveness of the dental hygiene program. Participate in community outreach and engagement activities to promote the program and profession. Contribute to the assessment and accreditation process of the dental hygiene program. Perform other work-related duties as required. Salary:
Amarillo College follows a lag pay strategy, with starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade, rarely reaching the maximum to support long-term growth within each position. Pay grade 10 Amarillo College Pay Grades (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).
Physical Demands:
Extended periods of standing while supervising students , moving around the clinic area to observe and assist , bending, reaching, and using hands for tasks , precise manual dexterity for demonstrations , keen visual acuity for assessment , occasional lifting of materials and equipment.
Work Conditions:
Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.)
Working Environment:
The role requires a willingness to work flexibly and involves conducting clinical instruction with the dental hygiene clinic at Amarillo College; interactions occur within a collaborative environment involving students, patients, faculty, and staff. Adherence to infection control and safety protocols is essential, following standard precautions and institutional policies.
