Hiring Department The UMKC School of Dentistry is seeking a dependable, technically skilled, and customer-service-oriented professional to join our operations team as a Dental Equipment Specialist . For more than a century, the School of Dentistry has prepared the next generation of oral health professionals through excellence in education, research, and patient care. Our alumni represent approximately half of all practicing dentists in Missouri, reflecting our strong commitment to service, quality, and leadership. Job Description The Dental Equipment Specialist plays a critical role in supporting the daily clinical, academic, and research operations of the School of Dentistry. Reporting to a Dental Maintenance supervisor, this position is responsible for the installation, calibration, inspection, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of dental and related equipment across clinical, laboratory, research, radiology, and Central Sterilization (CSR) areas. This is a highly visible, service-focused role that regularly interacts with faculty, staff, and students to ensure equipment reliability, patient safety, and uninterrupted instructional and clinical operations. Key Responsibilities Dental & Clinical Equipment Support Perform preventive maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of dental chairs, handpiece systems, intra-oral and extra-oral radiology equipment, sedation equipment, air compressors, alcohol torches, and other clinical devices. Maintain and service equipment used in dental clinics, laboratories, research spaces, radiology areas, CSR, and departmental locations. Ensure equipment is calibrated, tested, and fully operational in accordance with manufacturer specifications and institutional standard. Building & Utility Systems Support Maintain accurate service and maintenance records for all assigned equipment and systems. Customer Service & Communication Communicate clearly and professionally with dental faculty, staff, and students regarding equipment status, service timelines, and operational concerns. Respond promptly to service requests to minimize disruption to patient care, instruction, and research activities. General Duties Follow all safety, infection control, and university policies and procedures. Perform other related duties as assigned to support operational readiness and facility efficiency. Minimum Qualifications A High School Diploma or an equivalent of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary. Experience in dental equipment repair or technical experience with pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, or electricity is necessary Must have a valid driver's license. Must be able to lift up to 100lbs is necessary Anticipated Hiring Range The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $23.00 - $27.00 per hour. Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
