Patient Examination and Diagnosis:
Conducting thorough oral examinations, reviewing and interpreting X-rays and other diagnostic tests, and obtaining medical histories to diagnose oral health issues such as cavities, gum disease, and infections.
Treatment Planning:
Developing personalized treatment plans to restore and maintain the patient's oral health, and discussing treatment options and aftercare instructions with patients.
Performing General Dental Procedures:
Carrying out a variety of routine and complex procedures, including: Removing tooth decay and filling cavities. Performing teeth cleanings, scaling, and polishing. Administering local anesthesia. Performing root canals and extractions. Creating and fitting crowns, bridges, dentures, and other prosthetics. Applying sealants and performing cosmetic procedures like teeth whitening.
Patient Education:
Educating patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive dental care, and diet choices to promote overall oral health and disease prevention.
Collaboration and Management:
Working closely and communicating effectively with dental hygienists, dental assistants, and administrative staff to ensure seamless, quality patient care. They may also be involved in supervising junior staff.
Record Keeping:
Maintaining accurate, detailed, and up-to-date patient medical and dental records, treatment plans, and progress notes.
Compliance and Safety:
Ensuring that the treatment rooms and equipment are sterile and that all procedures comply with strict safety, hygiene, and ethical standards set by regulatory bodies like OSHA and dental boards.
Professional Development:
Staying current with the latest developments in dentistry, new technologies, and best practices through continuing education and professional development activities
