Performs routine cleanings, restorations, and extractions as needed. Collaborates with staff to ensure seamless operations and optimal patient care. Evaluates patients requiring dental care beyond basic services and provides appropriate recommendations. Documents all dental services provided to ensure compliance with FCH's healthcare standards and policies. Educates patients on proper oral hygiene techniques and utilizes standard precautions when delivering dental care. Supervises staff, coordinates daily operations and addresses patient and staffing needs. Ensures sterilization and disinfection of equipment. May provides in-service training to healthcare staff on dental hygiene, dental care, dental emergencies, and treatment techniques. Performs other duties as assigned to support FCH's goals, objectives and values. Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies Knowledge of treatment approaches, evidence-based practices and assessment standards. Knowledge and expertise in dental health, and the diagnosis and treatment of individuals. Ability to stay current with advancements in dentistry through ongoing education and training. Strong attention to detail, follow-up and timely completion of assigned tasks. Strong written and oral communication skills. Demonstrates outstanding judgment, sensitivity and high discretion. Ability to balance competing demands and maintain positive, collaborative working relationships with leadership, staff, patients, the public and external partners. Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations effectively and calmly. Understanding of the challenges and constraints of providing care in a correctional setting. Work Environment Work is performed in a correctional healthcare environment with exposure to noise, communicable diseases, controlled access areas, and unpredictable conditions. The Dentist is responsible for providing comprehensive dental care and treatment to patients, ensuring compliance with facility regulations and quality care standards. This role requires clinical expertise, documentation accuracy, and adherence to security protocols. The Dentist is also responsible for recommending strategies for optimal delivery of dental care and maintaining clinical practice policy and procedures, quality assurance and improvement processes. This position will report directly to the Chief Medical Officer.
