Job Description
Job Summary The Staff Dentist examines individuals requesting care; diagnoses their dental conditions; prescribes and carries out, or directs others in carrying out, appropriate therapy; or refers individuals for specialty consultation or care in conformance with approved clinic privileges. Additionally, the Staff Dentist educates individuals in the nature of oral health related conditions and in the general promotion of health and the prevention of oral disease. Qualifications 1. Graduation from an accredited school of dentistry. 2. Maintain an active licensed to practice Dentistry in the state of Louisiana as a dental provider. 3. Maintain an active Louisiana controlled dangerous substance license. 4. Maintain an active DEA member. 5. Maintain an active Medicare number. 6. Maintain an active Medicaid number. 7. Reasoning Ability. 8. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. 9. Maintain an active CPR certification. 10. Professional and personal qualities which permits the Dentist to work with staff of the health center in a manner as to earn their confidence and respect. 11. Standing, bending, stooping, lifting, positioning, and sight, auditory, tactile, and olfactory senses. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Clinical Duties 1. Examines patient to determine nature of condition. 1. Provides preventative dental services to patients such as
application of fluoride and sealants to teeth. 2. Simple extraction. 3. Restores injured and decayed teeth. 4. Educates patients in oral and dental hygiene. 5. Performs children & adult prophylaxis. 6. Provide appropriate referrals. 7. Performs appropriate radiographs. 8. Develops comprehensive treatment plans for quality care. 9. Provides patient services with clinical competencies and caring communication. 10. Provides gingivitis and periodontal disease maintenance. 11. Completes educational programs in personal expertise, in clinical skills and
practice management. 12. Teaches methods for maintaining dental health to patients and to groups in the
community.
