Dentist (Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon) The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon serves as a practicing dentist who performs a full range of professional dental procedures in connections with the trement of commonly encountered dental diseases or dental health problems requiring standard corrective, restorive, or preventive measures. The 1. Make oral and radiographic examinions of the oral cavity and its adjacent tissues and structures. 2. Diagnose phological or irregular oral conditions. 3. Accomplish admissions, work-up and performance of surgical procedures of pients presenting with illnesses, injuries, and disorders of both the functional and aesthetic aspects of the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial regions 4. Accomplishes dental-alveolar surgical procedures, reduction of facial fractures, placement of dental implants and biopsy procedures. 5. Provide safe and effective anesthesia services in the outpient setting including intravenous sedion/general anesthesia. 6. Dentist Basic Requirements A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of educion in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are (1) United Stes and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accredition(CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.(2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a Ste, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examinion measuring science achievement and a performance examinion measuring clinical competence certificion, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certifice, if claimed by the applicant. ~AND~ Completed, or you are currently completing, a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treing medically compromised pients. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a Ste, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United Stes, or in the District of Columbia.

Dentists must maintain current registrion in the Ste of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.

Preferred Experience:

Preferred experience includes current, active experience in the surgical management of complex pients with diagnosis of: (1) TMJ disorders requiring joint reconstruction, (2) soft tissue infection, (3) osteoradionecrosis, (4) medicion-reled osteonecrosis of the jaws, (5) dentofacial deformity requiring orthognhic surgery, (6) obstructive sleep apnea requiring maxillomandibular advancement, (7) oral and maxillofacial phology requiring resection and reconstruction, and (8) missing teeth requiring major and minor bone grafting and advanced dental implant surgical techniques. Board certified or board eligible in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS).
