Job Description

Position Title:
Infirmary Aide Infirmary Reports to: Director of Monastery Under the supervision of the Director of the Monastery Infirmary and in accordance with the established policies and procedure of the Saint Vincent food service, prepares meals for the members of the Saint Vincent community who take their meals in the infirmary dining room. Provides basic care for the residents and necessary unit tasks and will function in compliance with applicable health care standards, policies, and procedures; under the direction of the nursing supervisor and reports pertinent information to the Monastery Infirmary Director and or Charge Nurse on duty.
Required Qualifications:
Education :
High school diploma required. Training or education and food service preferred. Recommended CNA licensed or equivalent Medical Technician qualified.
Experience :
Work in food service and patient care.
Duties:
Keeps the kitchen and the dining room clean and in good order. Presents food with your appropriate utensils and at the proper temperature. Resets tables and regularly changes tablecloth. Responds promptly and courteously to special request of the monks. Prepares trays according to nursing specifications for those who are room bound. Maintain stock and inventory of the kitchen supplies. Makes available beverages, fruit, and small snack, items for the nutritional needs of the monks. Reports any hazards to patients or staff and makes recommendations for improvements of the service in the physical space. Establishes and maintains interpersonal relationships with residence, visitors, and staff while assuring confidentiality. Reports any changes observed and conditions or behaviors of patients and any unusual behavior. Bathing (bed, tub, shower or sponge bath) Skin Care. Maintain each resident?s skin integrity to prevent pressure ulcers, skin tears, and other damage by changing incontinent residents, turning, repositioning immobile residents and applying moisturizers or ordering preparation to frail skin and other areas.
Toileting:
Bedpan, urinal, commode, and/or toilet as needed.
Grooming:
Shampoo, nail care, and shaving as needed/requested.
Oral Hygiene:
Teeth or denture care. Assist with dressing and undressing. Assist with feeding of residents who need help. Measuring and recording intake and output when ordered. Weigh and record weights as required. Assists in turning and positioning of patients q2 hours and PRN. Proper transfer techniques. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge for safe use of medical equipment (canes, walkers, Hoyer lift, side rails, and oxygen) Help keep rooms, working area clean and supplied. Make and change beds (occupied and unoccupied). Transport residents, supplies and equipment as needed. Assist nurses and other personnel as needed. Ambulation of residents who require assistance. Simple nonsterile dressings. Perform skin assessments and notify RN/Charge Nurse of any abnormalities in skin integrity. Apply heat or cold compresses, as directed by RN/Charge Nurse. Answer residents call lights promptly and take appropriate action. Collects and labels specimens (urine, stool, sputum). Measures and records vital signs, weights, and report variations to RN/Charge Nurse. Laundry for residents in the infirmary. Participate in shift-to-shift reports. Immediately report any changes in resident?s condition or incidents to RN/Charge Nurse. Maintain confidentiality in relations to all healthcare staff and documentations.
Other duties:
1. Practices careful and efficient use of supplies and materials. 2. Participates in orientation of new employees. 3. Adapts to changing unit needs by organizing priorities. 4. Attends and participates in unit meetings and job-related educational programs.
