The Nutrition Services Aide is an entry-level role that focuses on preparing and distributing nutritious meals and snacks for children enrolled in ACE of NEPA's Early Childhood Education Program. This position is located in Hawley, PA. This position plays a vital role in creating a safe, clean, and engaging learning environment by supporting both kitchen and classroom functions. The Assistant also ensures that food service and sanitation practices meet federal Head Start Program Standards and internal agency policies. This individual must be culturally responsive, dependable, and motivated to work collaboratively with a diverse team and the children served.Key Responsibilities:
Understands and follows Head Start regulations, performance standards, and agency procedures. Receives and inspects food deliveries and maintains adequate inventory. Prepares meals/snacks based on planned menus and dietary guidelines. Keeps kitchen and food service areas sanitized according to a cleaning schedule. Sets up and sanitizes tables before and after meals; mops and sweeps floors as needed. Accurately tracks and reports daily food quantities served. Supports classroom staff with nutrition-related educational activities for children. Posts menus in designated areas and updates them as required. Notifies the Nutrition Supervisor of any changes in menu or supplies needed. Wears required protective gear such as aprons and hairnets while handling food. Serves meals in a family-style manner, promoting second helpings and self-service where appropriate. Participates in the cleaning and upkeep of classroom spaces and restrooms. Assists in classroom activities or fills in as needed for classroom coverage. Maintains confidentiality of child, family, and staff information. Actively promotes a culture of safety and well-being in all program areas. Respects and honors cultural, linguistic, and family differences. Acts as a mandated reporter in cases of suspected child abuse or neglect. Pursues professional development and shares new knowledge with colleagues. Accepts direction from center leadership and performs other related tasks as needed.Skills & Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required. Relevant experience may substitute where applicable. Basic understanding of nutrition, meal preparation, and food safety standards. Ability to follow written recipes and verbal instructions. Comfortable interacting with young children and encouraging participation in food-related activities. Strong teamwork and communication skills. CPR and Pediatric First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain). Physical ability to stand for extended periods, bend, lift up to 25 lbs, and clean. Willingness to work in environments with moderate noise and potential exposure to illnesses.Work Conditions:
Physical tasks include prolonged standing, cleaning, lifting, squatting, and general mobility. Protective gear such as gloves, aprons, and hair coverings must be worn during food service. Occasionally may be exposed to blood, bodily fluids, and communicable diseases.Equal Employment Opportunity:
