Job Description
Position Summary:
Baristas prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold beverages, assist with prepared food service tasks, operate a cash register, and provide excellent customer service at The Dripline, NVHD's in-house coffee and food shop. As a member of the Dietary Department, Barista/Dietary Aides also perform shift work in the kitchen to support food service operations. This includes responsibilities from the Dietary Aide segment of the Cook/Aide role, such as meal delivery, food preparation assistance, dishwashing, and cleaning. The Barista/Dietary Aide ensures that all food safety and infection control regulations are followed and participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
Position Responsibilities :
Beverage Preparation:
Prepare and customize espresso-based and other hot/cold drinks.
Customer Service:
Greet customers, take accurate orders, provide recommendations, and operate the POS system.
Product Knowledge:
Understand different coffee beans, drinks, and brewing methods; stay updated on trends.
Equipment Maintenance:
Operate, clean, and maintain coffee equipment; perform basic troubleshooting as needed.
Cleanliness and Safety:
Keep all work areas, utensils, and public spaces sanitary and safe. Promptly report safety hazards and incidents Complete accident reports as required Follow all infection control practices
Inventory Management:
Monitor and restock coffee, food items, and supplies; notify supervisor when inventory is low.
Teamwork & Collaboration:
Support new staff training and attend team meetings Assist with communication during emergencies or disasters Participate in quality assurance activities Report incidents, complaints, or concerns as appropriate Dietary Aide / Kitchen Responsibilities Assist with food prep, following safe food handling and HACCP guidelines Portion and serve meals for patients, residents, staff, and visitors Assist with meal delivery to the hospital and Extended Care Set up dining areas, restock supplies, and maintain cleanliness in food service areas Rotate stock and assist with unloading and storing deliveries Record food temperatures and assist with dishwashing duties Follow diet orders, menus, and special dietary modifications under supervision Maintain sanitation standards and report kitchen hazards

Demonstrates leadership responsibility and skills, including planning and completing duties with minimal direction from the supervisor when appropriate. Performs other duties as assigned, provided skills, abilities, and qualifications are appropriate and sufficient training is provided.

While performing duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; must have speech, vision, smell, touch and hearing corrected to normal range. The employee must frequently lift/push/pull up to 25 pounds and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus .
Mental requirements:
Must be able to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form; must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure; must be able to read, write, and speak clearly.
Work environment:
Works inside in close working quarters with co-workers. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Exposures :
Muscular strain, body fluids, behavior of clients/patients/residents, infectious material, chemicals/cleaning solutions, potential allergens such as plants/flowers, and noxious odors.
Role Qualifications:
Current DOH Food Handlers Card; Willing to take the Serve Safe course. Previous Cashier experience and/or ability to count change.
Customer service experience:
previous experience working as a barista is preferred. Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule, including kitchen shifts
