Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics required. 2. ADA membership required. 3. Southern Tier Dietetic Association Membership encouraged. 4. Registered or Registry eligible by
ADA. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Coordinates therapeutic diet program with Current Diet Manual & Standards. 2. Provides diet instructions to Residents on a referral basis from physicians & all disciplines. Educates Residents on special diets according to M.D.'s diet order or as deemed appropriate within 48 hours of receipt of a referral or prior to discharge. Brief verbal instructions can be given to Residents by either you, the Clinical Diet Technician or by nursing using the nutrition materials. 3. Contacts professional personnel (Nursing & Medical Staff) to present potential problem areas in meeting Resident food service needs. If problems exist, plans are formed for remedial action. If action required is a matter of method or timing, discuss with Clinical Diet Technician & FSD. 4. Assist in the procurement, development & revision of educational materials. 5. Charts pertinent observations & information relating to nutritional therapy for Residents in the medical record, i.e., nutritional assessments, according to standards. 6. Assists with training of all dietary personnel to insure their capability of adhering to correct procedures such as: a. Receiving & implementing diet orders b. Kardex procedure c. Answering telephones d. Editing & correcting menus e. Heading menus f. Nutritional needs of all age groups & life stage 7. Involved in National Nutritional Month planning & implementation. 8. Assists with the direction of dietary personnel & involved more in tray line staff as needed; performs tray assessments as assigned. 9. Consults with the FSD to see that food orders are available to plan Residents' menu specials. 10. Visits Residents during meal service to assure correct dietary service. Via meal rounds, addresses any problem areas identified. Formal meal rounds are done at least weekly or as necessary. 11. Assists with quality assurance monitors/audits as requested. 12. Adheres to all departmental & organizational policies & procedures. 13. Assists in the development of the departmental inservice programs & does presentations as assigned. 14. Presents community programs as assigned or requested. 15. Responsible for keeping Menus current in respect to Resident meal plans with the FSD for substitutions, diet orders, weights, charting dates, nourishments, select menus, etc. 16. Attends weekly management, dietary, nutrition support meetings & others as needed. 17. Performs other duties as assigned.
