What You'll Do As a Nutritionist, you will report to the Manager/WIC Coordinator or Clinic Supervisor. Responsible for completing nutrition and breastfeeding assessment, education, and counseling and serves as a WIC Qualified Nutritionist or Competent Professional Authority (CPA). This WIC agency adopts the belief of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) policy statement "Human milk is species-specific, and all substitute feeding preparations differ markedly from it, making human milk uniquely superior for infant feeding." Nutritionist Job Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments and document anthropometric measurements, nutrition education, counseling, referrals, and certification activities within the Indiana WIC Management Information System (INWIC MIS). Provide individualized nutrition education and counseling tailored to clients' health status, dietary needs, food preferences, cultural considerations, and living conditions. Deliver client-centered nutrition counseling and follow-up services for high-risk participants and individuals requiring additional support. Facilitate group nutrition education classes and maintain associated documentation and program records. Refer clients to community resources, including Medicaid, substance abuse services, and social support programs, to address health and wellness needs. Screen applicants for WIC eligibility, including verification of identity, residency, income, and program requirements. Schedule appointments, assist with intake processes, and maintain accurate participant records in the
INWIC MIS.
Issue WIC benefits, eWIC cards, breast pumps, and tailored food prescriptions in accordance with program policies and guidelines. Educate participants on WIC program benefits, approved foods, eWIC card usage, and available program resources. Assist participants with registration and utilization of WIC technology tools, including the INWIC mobile application. Support voter registration activities and provide required program-related information in compliance with applicable regulations. Maintain accurate documentation, confidentiality, and compliance with federal, state, and organizational WIC program requirements. Participate in departmental meetings, mandatory training, competency validations, and continuing education activities. Maintain professional licensure, certifications, and compliance with organizational policies, regulatory standards, and patient safety practices. What You Bring As a Nutritionist, this position requires regular attendance during all clinic hours, up to the limits established for full-time employees, and the ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to facilitate meaningful conversations that address the needs of individuals and families. Professionalism is essential, including adherence to legal, ethical, and WIC federal regulations. The role requires proficiency in operating standard office and computer equipment, utilizing Indiana WIC communication services to effectively support clients, and maintaining working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Teams, and Edge, as well as Google Chrome. Flexibility and adaptability are also necessary to successfully navigate periods of program change and evolving operational needs. Required Qualifications Must be one of the following: Registered Dietitian; or Registration eligible to take the exam for the Commission on Dietetic Registration; or Bachelor's or master's degree in Dietetics, Nutrition or Nutrition Sciences Registered Nurse A graduate of a bachelor's or master's program in a health-related field which, through review of an official transcript from an accredited college, includes a study in nutrition CPR certification is preferred. Experience in maternal and child health or public health setting preferred.
