Job Description

Part Time Dietetic Assistant (24 hours/week)
DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the Registered Dietitian (RD) and Medical Office Administrator (MOA), this position will support the educational outreach of the Special Diabetes Program (SDPI) for Native Americans/Alaskan Natives and will facilitate workshops. The Dietetic Assistant will work directly with youth and adult clientele, coordinate with RD, and help with outreach to increase the number of clients.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or equivalent. Nutrition and Dietetics Technician Registered (NDTR) or a bachelor's degree w/ emphasis in Health Sciences, Psychology or related subject with prior training or knowledge in Diabetes self-care management and/or nutrition education preferred. Previous experience working with the Native American communities and have knowledge of Native American activities is highly desirable. Must have a current CPR card or be able to obtain one.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Assists implementation of nutrition and education events, and programming including healthy eating, physical activity, and other diabetes related education, assist disease prevention and patient education.
  • Be facilitator for diabetes education events as assigned.
  • Educate and correspond with youth and adult clients.
  • Provide support to RD on grant writing, procurement, and maintenance.
  • Meet daily with supervisor and weekly or as needed with peers or other departments.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of services and outreach provided.
  • Perform work and program activities according to the program's scope of work to public including Native American and Alaskan Native youth and families.
  • Coordinate with RD in the planning, implementing program initiatives, and events.
  • Oversee and coordinate program events.
  • Execute outreach events intended to educate on the Nevada Urban Indians Diabetic program.
  • If applicable, conduct Spanish translation for RD during diabetic counseling.
  • Help with patient calls, referrals, and scheduling for patients of the diabetic program.
  • Develop flyers and other outreach materials as needed or assigned and maintain outreach and program contact lists.
  • Participate in Committees.
  • Keep apprised of diabetes related training as needed for program implementation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
