Job Description

Avantara Arrowhead is searching for a Registered Dietitian Consultant. The consultant Registered Dietitian (RD) provides expert nutritional guidance, develops personalized diet plans, and supports Avantara Arrowhead and our residents in achieving optimal health outcomes.
Key Responsibilities Clinical Assessment and Care Planning:
The Consultant RD will evaluate patients' nutritional status by reviewing medical history, lab results, medications, and dietary intake. They will develop individualized care plans tailored to medical needs, cultural preferences, and lifestyle goals, providing medical nutrition therapy for conditions such as diabetes, renal disease, heart failure, malnutrition, and gastrointestinal disorders.
Education and Training:
The Consultant RD will educate patients, caregivers, and healthcare staff on nutrition principles, therapeutic diets, and healthy eating habits. They may provide additional training on regulatory compliance and/or food safety.
Regulatory Compliance and Documentation:
The Consultant RD will be expected to ensure compliance with regulations such as CMS requirements, Joint Commission standards, and facility-specific protocols. They will be responsible for maintaining accurate documentation and audit-ready records to support quality care and reimbursement.
Food Service and Program Support:
The Consultant RD will oversee meal services during on-site visit, review menus for nutritional adequacy, implement therapeutic diet modifications, and provide guidance on food service operations in LTC setting. They will engage in clinical audits, protocol compliance and advance evidence-based practice. Work Setting The Consultant Registered Dietitian will provide, at a minimum, monthly on-site visits, complete kitchen walk-throughs/audits, mealtime observations, visit with residents/provide dietary education as appropriate, and will have access to remote charting. Weekly visits to facility are preferred. Qualifications and Skills Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credentials are required, registered in the state of South Dakota with SDBOM. Strong knowledge of dietetics, nutritional science, and clinical nutrition; Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to develop individualized care plans; Proficiency in regulatory compliance and documentation; Capability to provide education and training. Analytical thinking, attention to detail, adaptability, and commitment to evidence-based practice.
Hours Facility Needs:
~8-12+ hours weekly, hours subject to change based on facility census fluctuations, acuity, and supplemental support per facility request (as able). Compensation Open to discussion per consultant RD rates. Consultant RD must also have own professional liability insurance. Avantara Arrowhead is an equal opportunity employer.
