The position of Full-time WIC Registered Dietitian is responsible for conducting individual nutrition counseling to high-risk participants, approving issuance of special formulas, and assisting with the WIC Certification Specialist Program. The Dietitian will assist the WIC Director, Clinical Supervisor, Outreach/NE Coordinator, QA Coordinator and admin staff when needed.
Essential Functions:
Review all documentation for WIC eligibility criteria with the participant/guardian and assign appropriate food packages. Provide appropriate one on one and group nutrition counseling to WIC participants. Perform anthropometric measure and lab work as needed for WIC services. Maintain client records. Assist in Nutrition Education, Special Projects, Staff Trainings, and Outreach plans as needed. Assist with patient flow. Assist with making appointments, issuing benefits, and other duties as needed. Maintain standards, instructing, review work, and coordinating activities. Participate in quality improvement needs and turn into supervisor. Check email, memos and complete appropriate documentation within required timelines. Provide counseling to high-risk participants as per policy. Provide consultation regarding the appropriate issuance of special prescriptive formulas. Keep Clinical Supervisor informed of changes to the schedule do to staffing issues. Assist with quarterly Quality Assurance reviews of all WIC clinics. Observe and contribute feedback the day-to-day activities of all clinic staff including performing frequent observations of counseling sessions and annual reviews. Provide staff training on nutrition-related topics and nutrition assessment procedures. Serve as preceptor for WCS program and assist with staff development. Serve as a preceptor for student interns. Other duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements :
Registered Dietitian Two years previous work experience in nutrition or health services preferred.
Supervision Received:
The WIC Dietitian will receive direct supervision by the WIC Clinic Supervisor. All paperwork will be turned into appropriate point of contact. Performance reviews will be made by the WIC Clinic Supervisor. Immunizations recommended in accordance with CDC guidelines: 1. MMR (2 doses or evidence of immunity to measles, mumps, and rubella); 2.Varicella (2 doses, reliable history/medical documentation of disease, or evidence of immunity to chickenpox); 3. Influenza (1 dose annually); 4.Td (complete series with one booster dose every 10 yrs); 5.Hepatitis B (Documentation of 3 doses. Un-immunized new employees shall complete a 3-dose series and post-vaccination blood test showing immunity. If test result is negative, up to 3 additional doses of vaccine may be required.) The following tests are recommended: Mantoux Tuberculin Skin Test
  • Purified Protein Derivative (PPD).
Annual testing recommended. Any blood titer necessary to establish immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, varicella or hepatitis B.
