Job Title:
Dietitian (Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist)Job Summary:
Texas Helps is a premier medical detox and residential facility dedicated to helping those working to overcome addiction. Our compassionate, family-oriented substance use disorder treatment facility seeks an experienced Dietician. The Registered Dietitian (RD/LD) serves as the facility's nutritional consultant and provides professional oversight of the nutritional services program. The Dietitian collaborates with the Head Chef and facility leadership to ensure menus are nutritionally appropriate, meet applicable dietary guidelines, and support the health and recovery of clients receiving behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment. The Dietitian provides consultation regarding nutrition-related concerns, reviews and approves facility menus, assists with dietary policy recommendations, and conducts individual nutritional consultations for clients when clinically indicated.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Menu Development & Oversight- Review, evaluate, and approve all facility cycle menus.
- Collaborate with the Head Chef to ensure meals are nutritionally balanced and appropriate for the client population.
- Recommend menu modifications based on seasonal availability, nutritional standards, food allergies, therapeutic diets, and client needs.
- Review menus at least annually or more frequently when significant menu changes occur.
- Provide written approval and signature on all facility menus.
- Ensure menus support recovery-oriented nutrition and comply with applicable dietary recommendations. Nutritional Consultation Provide professional nutritional consultation to the facility regarding:
- General nutrition and wellness
- Food allergies and sensitivities
- Special dietary requirements
- Diabetic meal planning
- Heart healthy dietary recommendations
- Weight management concerns
- Vitamin and mineral deficiencies
- Gastrointestinal disorders affecting nutrition
- Other nutrition-related conditions as requested Client Nutritional Consultations Individual nutrition consultations may be scheduled when clinically indicated.
Consultations shall:
- Be requested by the Director of Nursing or licensed clinical staff.
- Occur following identification of a nutrition-related diagnosis, concern, or treatment need through assessment or treatment planning.
- Include assessment, education, recommendations, and documentation of findings.
- Communicate recommendations to the treatment team as appropriate.
Individual Nutritional Consultations:
- $75.00 per completed client consultation.
- Consultations are billed separately from the monthly consulting retainer. Regulatory & Quality Support The Registered Dietitian shall :
- Assist the facility in maintaining compliance with applicable HHSC regulations and Joint Commission Behavioral Health standards related to nutrition services.
- Be available for consultation during regulatory surveys as needed.
- Provide recommendations regarding dietary policies and procedures.
- Assist with quality improvement initiatives related to nutritional services. Collaboration The Dietitian will collaborate with:
- Executive Director
- Director of Nursing
- Head Chef/Kitchen Manager
- Clinical Leadership
- Nursing Staff
- Other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team as appropriate
Qualifications Required:
- Current Registered Dietitian (RD) credential through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
- Current Licensed Dietitian (LD) in the State of Texas.
- Minimum two years of professional experience.
- Knowledge of nutrition principles applicable to adult populations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Professional liability insurance.
Preferred:
- Experience in behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, psychiatric, residential, or healthcare settings.
- Knowledge of HHSC licensing standards.
- Knowledge of Joint Commission Behavioral Health standards.
