Job Description

This Supervisory Dietitian (Clinical Nutrition) assignment is the expert in clinical nutrition and oversees a complex Clinical Nutrition Section which involves providing administrative and technical supervision of GS12 Dietitians and the oversight of the work of clinical dietitians at the GS-11 level and below. The Supervisory Dietitian makes decisions based on intricate and unrelated information and assumptions from inconclusive or variable data in all aspects of nutrition operations.

Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Registration. All applicants must hold the RDN credential from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) the credentialing agency of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Note:
Applicants who hold the RDN credential have met the education requirement (e.g. bachelor's degree or higher) of CDR, as such this occupation is considered professional and scientific with a positive education requirement and the procedures in Part I, Chapter 4 of this Handbook will be followed when applying Veteran's preference. •Please attach copy with your application. English Language Proficiency. Dietitian candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f) . Current VHA Dietitians that qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision may not be promoted to a higher grade if they do not meet the current RDN/RD requirements.
Grade Determinations :
Supervisory Dietitian (Clinical Nutrition), GS-13 Experience . One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following
KSAs:
Skill in written communication including policy development and standard operating procedures. Skill in strategic planning to develop goals, objectives and action plans. Skill in analyzing data to monitor progress towards improving and sustaining outcomes. Ability to negotiate. Ability to supervise subordinate staff (i.e., plan, organize, delegate, direct, control and review activities and performance).
Preferred Experience:
3+ years Clinical Leadership Experience 2+ years using VA software - CPRS and VISTA 1+ year experience with Computrition 2+ years with goal, policy, and procedure development 2+ years working on interdisciplinary teams

Physical Requirements:
The work is sedentary. Some work may require movement between offices, hospitals, warehouses, and similar areas for meetings and to conduct work. Work may also require walking/standing, in conjunctions with travel to and attendance at meetings and/or conferences away from the work site. Incumbent may carry and lift light items weighing less than 15 pounds.
