Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
The Outpatient Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) provides evidence-based Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) to patients in an ambulatory care setting in accordance with Washington State regulations and nationally recognized standards of practice. This role collaborates with an interdisciplinary care team to support disease prevention, chronic disease management, and improved patient outcomes through individualized nutrition assessment, counseling, and follow-up.
PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS
include the following, other duties may be assigned: Provide individualized Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) under provider referral/order, in compliance with Washington State scope of practice Perform comprehensive nutrition assessments using the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) Develop, implement, and evaluate personalized nutrition care plans Provide patient-centered nutrition counseling utilizing motivational interviewing and behavior-change strategies Deliver care for conditions including, but not limited to: Diabetes and prediabetes Cardiovascular disease Chronic kidney disease Gastrointestinal disorders Weight management and metabolic conditions Document all assessments, interventions, education, and outcomes in the electronic health record in accordance with: Organizational policy CMS and payer billing requirements Washington State Regulations Coordinate care with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, pharmacists, and care coordinators Participate in quality improvement initiatives, population health efforts, and program development related to nutrition services Maintain professional competence through continuing education and adherence to evidence-based practice guidelines
JOB KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS
Education Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field from an ACEND-accredited program. Training and Experience Prior experience providing outpatient MNT in a clinic or hospital-based setting. Experience working in chronic disease management or diabetes education programs. Familiarity with billing and documentation requirements for MNT services. Experience providing culturally responsive care to diverse patient populations. Strong clinical assessment, documentation, and patient education skills Proficiency with electronic health records and outpatient workflows Outpatient/ambulatory clinic setting. May include in-person and telehealth visits, as operationally needed. Ability to sit, stand, and move throughout the clinic environment Ability to use computers and standard office equipment for documentation and patient education Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Current Washington State Dietitian Certification (or ability to obtain prior to start date), issued by the Washington State Department of Health. Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) required. Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) preferred.
