POSITION
Registered or Certified Dietitian 40 hours per week
PRIMARY SUPERVISOR
WIC Service Line Manager
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Registered or Certified Dietitian is responsible for the management of participant information and needs and provides direct services and education to clients of Healthfrist Network, Inc. ensuring that WIC clinics provide an appropriate family-friendly environment which encompasses all of the Being Person Centered (BePC principles).
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Understand the goals and objectives of the WIC Program and public health services in general. Respects the diversity of the population served by WIC, and the ability to work effectively with a low income, multi-cultural population. Have the nutrition and breastfeeding knowledge and skills to screen and assess, counsel and educate; provide appropriate referrals; and support the goals of the WIC Program. Education and counseling will include information on contraceptive options during lactation. Assess client maternal and child health needs according to established WIC procedures. Develops individual participant care plans based on identified need and documents in ROSIE (Wisconsin WIC data system). Provides individualized nutrition education to participants based on assessed need. Makes efficient and effective use of educational materials for the purpose of nutrition education for participants. Tailors food prescriptions for participants based on the assessment of participant need. Makes appropriate referrals to physicians and other service providers based on individual participant needs. Provides follow-up for identified nutrition risks of WIC participants and referrals to other service providers. Provides all high risk counseling contacts. Documents client assessments, counseling, and referrals on ROSIE (Wisconsin WIC data system). Participates in the nutrition education team and implements the nutrition education workplans. Provides nutrition consultation to reproductive health staff and individualized nutrition education to reproductive health clients as needed Develops and implements presentations for collateral agencies and the community. Assists with the organization and management of WIC clinics through proper scheduling of WIC participants for individualized nutrition sessions, mid-certification appointments, and certification clinics. Effectively interprets WIC policies to participants. Maintains security and confidentiality of all participant and their records. Attends appropriate meetings and seminars for continuing education purposes to obtain a minimum of 50 hours of continuing education every 5 years. Will meet all qualifications and skills, and fulfill all responsibilities of the project Competent Professional Authority (CPA) as required per State of Wisconsin WIC Program.  Assists with other responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Must be committed to quality healthcare, excellent customer service and the mission of Healthfirst Network, Inc. Ability to relate to diverse communities and be sensitive to cultural and ethnic differences among staff and clients. Articulate; good verbal and written skills. Exhibits good organizational skills. Ability to work collaboratively and independently. Knowledge of computer software and electronic medical records. Willingness to travel as needed. EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE
Must be a Registered Dietitian who is registered with Commission on Dietetic Registration or a Certified Dietitian who is certified with the State of Wisconsin through the Department of Safety and Professional Services. Have a Bachelor's in a health related profession such as dietetics or nutrition, Masters preferred. 3-5 years of prior experience in maternal and child health programming preferred. Knowledge of public health nutrition desirable. Previous experience in community involvement desirable.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training which will include safety precautions and the use of personal protection equipment. Must have own reliable transportation. This position requires travel, therefore a valid driver's license and auto insurance in accordance with agency liability standards is required High degree of accountability for agency services and for well-being of clients.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work requires accuracy and moderate speed Sitting for long periods of time, occasional lifting, carrying, and moving items to other sites or within sites. Driving or riding in vehicle for up to two hours or more. Variety of physical exertion with some and /or continuous standing or walking.
