Job Description

PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Director of Nursing oversees nursing education, training, onboarding, and quarterly/annual competencies for the Division of Nursing. This role works in with the nurse managers to ensure compliance with evolving regulatory requirements as well as updating and reviewing policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
Active and unrestricted RN License required. Alaska RN license must be obtained within one (I) year of hire. Associate Degree in Nursing required. Bachelors or Masters preferred. Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certifications are required. NRP/ALSO/fNCC/ENPC are preferred. Proven proficiency pertaining to clinical experience in a Medical Surgical and/or Emergency Department (within the last IO years), Critical Access Hospital (CAH) experience preferred. Proven familiarity with the unique challenges and resources available in rural healthcare settings. Demonstrated ability to work across multiple departments and provide care to a diverse patient population, including acute, chronic, neonate, pediatric, and geriatrics. Demonstrated proficiency with EHR platfonns, with attention to accuracy and compliance. Demonstrated ability to effectively utilize various online platfonns for compliance tracking and evidence-based education creation. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams in a culturally sensitive and respectful manner.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Demonstrates thorough knowledge of unit specific protocols, worktlows, equipment, and patient care standards. Delivers safe, efficient evidence-based care across all hospital units and settings. Collaborates with the CNO to develop and maintain the Patient Safety Committee. Assists in timely drafting, updating, and reviewing policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with evolving regulatory requirements. Exhibits cultural competence by respecting and adapting to the diverse backgrounds and needs of patients and families. Engages in continuous improvement of nursing care practices.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a clinical setting, including Inpatient, Emergency Department, Medevac, and Outpatient Services. Responsibilities may occasionally include air-transport-escort and home visits, with on-call duties outlined by departmental needs. There is frequent exposure to contagious diseases. The role requires the ability to see, hear, speak, walk, sit, bend, kneel, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. Work hours are variable and depend on unit needs and shift assignments. Village travel may be necessary.
