Job Summary:
The Assistant Director of Staff Development (Assistant DSD) supports the DSD in planning, organizing, and directing educational programs and training for nursing staff to ensure clinical competency, regulatory compliance, and high-quality resident care. This role also assists in managing the nursing schedule to ensure adequate staffing levels that meet state-required PPD (Per Patient Day) ratios.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Staff Education and Training Assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating orientation programs for new hires, including CNAs, LVNs, and RNs. Support the scheduling and delivery of ongoing in-service education based on facility needs, regulatory requirements, and quality assurance trends. Maintain and update training records for all nursing staff to ensure compliance with Title 22 and federal regulations. Provide instruction on infection control, resident rights, abuse reporting, documentation, fall prevention, and other mandatory topics. Scheduling and PPD Compliance Assist in developing and maintaining the daily, weekly, and monthly nursing staff schedule (CNAs, LVNs, RNs). Monitor staffing levels in real time to ensure compliance with required PPD standards based on census. Coordinate with the DON and staffing coordinator to adjust schedules and call in or reassign staff as needed to meet coverage requirements. Maintain accurate records of staff hours worked and staffing ratios for survey readiness and administrative reporting. Support in minimizing use of overtime and agency by effectively managing internal staffing resources. Regulatory Compliance Ensure all mandatory training (e.g., annual competencies, CPR, dementia care, OSHA) is completed and documented. Assist in preparation and readiness for state and federal surveys related to staff development, training, and staffing compliance. Participate in Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives by identifying training or scheduling-related concerns and proposing solutions. Supportive Functions Evaluate clinical competencies and assist with skill checks for nursing staff. Act as a clinical resource and mentor to staff, supporting real-time learning opportunities. Serve as backup to the DSD during absences to maintain program continuity and staff support.
Additional Responsibilities:
Attend staff meetings, care conferences, and administrative meetings as needed. Promote a culture of learning, accountability, and teamwork within the nursing department. Other duties as assigned by the DSD or DON.
Qualifications:
Current California Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate (required). Minimum 1-2 years of experience in a skilled nursing facility.
MUST HAVE
Experience with staff scheduling and understanding of PPD calculations (required). Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills. Familiarity with Title 22, OBRA, and federal staffing regulations. Walk-In Applicants welcomed Monday - Friday, 9a - 5pm.
