REPORTING
The Director of Nursing Services reports to the Administrator.
JOB DUTIES
1. Have administrative authority, responsibility and accountability for the functions, activities and development of all nursing service personnel. 2. Responsible for the development and/or management of nursing service, objectives, standards of nursing practice, nursing policy and procedure manuals, and written job descriptions for all levels of nursing personnel. 3. Recommends the number and categories of nursing personnel needed of and assists in their selection, training, assignments, supervision, evaluation and terminations. 4. Responsible for adequate numbers and level of nursing personnel on all shifts at all times to meet resident needs. 5. Assists in planning, decision-making and budgeting for nursing care. 6. Participates with the medical staff and other professional staff members in developing, maintaining and monitoring resident care policies and procedures. 7. Assists with the planning of the orientation program for new nursing personnel and helps to evaluate the staff development program. 8. Establishes and maintains a program for counseling and evaluating all nursing personnel on a regular basis. 9. Participates in Resident Care Committees as indicated. 10. Coordinates nursing service with other resident care services. 11. Establishes a system for the nursing assessment, plan of treatment, objectives and goals, discharge planning of all residents admitted to the center for care. 12. Arranges for a competent qualified registered nurse to assume his/her duties and responsibilities in his/her absence, or when required to assume administrative duties. 13. Has a thorough knowledge and maintains a personnel copy of the following: a. State Regulations b. Federal Standards for certification c. Quality Assurance/CQI 14. Responsible for maintaining documentation, which reflects the health care needs of every resident, care and treatment provided, residents' response to care and treatment and resident disposition. 15. Responsible for scheduling daily rounds to see all residents. 16. Monitor the attendance and performance of nursing staff with follow up discipline as needed to ensure dependable and knowledgeable resident care providers. 17. Monitors resident care and all related services and evaluate with recommendations to other departments through the Administrator to maintain quality service that meets both State and Federal Regulations and Quality Assurance. 18. Responsible for the completion of nursing portion on forms needed by accounts receivable. 19. Responsible for nursing purchases, approvals for accounts payable of nursing related items and the maintenance of the nursing budget. 20. Responsible for record keeping related to resident charges over the basic rate with input needed to accounts receivable. 21. Reviews and evaluates potential admissions with recommendations regarding the ability of the center and its staff to provide the specific needs required for the individual. 22. Serves on the patient Care Policy Committee, Pharmacy Committee, Infection Control Committee, Utilization Review Committee and others as directed. 23. Participates and coordinates the quality assurance program. 24. Maintains knowledge of current trends and new developments in long term care nursing.
REQUIREMENTS
1. Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. 2. Holds a current registration in the state in which practicing. 3. A Registered Nurse with a Bachelors of Science Degree is desirable. 4. Membership in his/her professional organization is desirable. 5. Recent nursing experience in a health care agency preferred. 6. Successful administrative or supervisory nursing experience or has successfully completed a college course in management principles preferred. 7. Demonstrates leadership ability. 8. Work experience includes Geriatric, Rehabilitation or psychiatric Nursing. 9. Highly desirable that the Registered Nurse has had special training in restorative Nursing Measures. 10. Good physical and mental health. 11. Demonstrates effective communication skills. 12. All reference verifications are favorable in all significant categories of character and performance.
